Commitment to the planet

Dear Roots, we want to keep it real. Our environmental commitment is about being truthful. We protect the well-being of our planet as best as we can while we continue to explore the topic. And we want you to be informed about what we can improve on or when we encounter obstacles in finding solutions. This is in effort to eliminate green-washing that is currently prevalent in the industry.

Why is transparency important?

The future of our planet depends on choices of individuals. To make the right decisions we need to be well informed and sugar-coating does nothing good for that. When consumers are led to believe that minor steps are enough or, even worse, when due to marketing strategies they lose trust in eco-friendly measures overall, non-sustainable consumption is set to increase. We disclose our behind the scenes of decision making to spread awareness of challenges a beauty business has moving towards sustainability.
As this is an ongoing learning process, should you have any questions, comments or suggestions on these topics, we are eager to hear from you at sustainability@dearroots.com

Current status
We use only plant-based ingredients, avoiding anything that could harm you or the environment – such as microplastic particles, synthetic fragrances, drying forms of alcohol, or harsh cleansers that may irritate the skin. All our components are carefully selected with both skin and nature in mind.
Striving for Better
We constantly follow the latest scientific developments and aim to use only the most advanced, safest, and ethically sourced ingredients that align with our values.
Commentary
Conscious ingredient selection is our commitment to you and to the Earth. We want everything you apply to your skin to be not only effective, but also clean, safe, and respectful to nature.
Current status
We use containers made from renewable sources – sugarcane-based plastic (excluding lids), glass jars, and direct printing instead of adhesive labels. All orders are packed in recycled cardboard boxes without sticky tape and filled with recycled paper. We avoid any unnecessary use of materials.
Striving for Better
We’re exploring even more eco-friendly solutions – such as compostable or entirely plastic-free packaging. We're also working to reduce the weight of our packaging to lower the carbon footprint of logistics.
Commentary
Packaging is the first physical touchpoint with our product. We want it to be not only beautiful, but also responsible – as gentle on the planet as possible, every step of the way.
Current status
We plan the quantity of each product based on real demand to avoid overproduction and the disposal of unsold goods. We work exclusively with suppliers based in the European Union and, whenever possible, choose partners located closer to us to reduce CO₂ emissions from transportation. All manufacturing waste is sorted and sent for responsible recycling or, when not possible, for safe disposal.
Striving for Better
To make an even greater impact, we aim to work only with partners who share our values – responsible production, transparency, and respect for the environment.
Commentary
Producing without excess means less waste, a smaller carbon footprint, and more respect for the world we live in. It takes more awareness and effort, but it's the only way we can stay true to what we believe in.
Current status
We regularly allocate funds to plant new trees in order to offset the CO₂ footprint of our operations. It’s a first, yet meaningful step on our path toward climate-neutral business practices.
Striving for Better
Through tree planting, we aim not only to neutralize our current impact but also to create added value for the environment. In the future, we plan to more thoroughly analyze and reduce CO₂ emissions across our entire supply chain.
Commentary
We believe that business can be not only neutral but a positive force for the planet. Tree planting is more than a symbolic gesture – it’s a living commitment to lasting environmental change.
