Commitment to the planet

Dear Roots, we want to keep it real. Our environmental commitment is about being truthful. We protect the well-being of our planet as best as we can while we continue to explore the topic. And we want you to be informed about what we can improve on or when we encounter obstacles in finding solutions. This is in effort to eliminate green-washing that is currently prevalent in the industry.

Why is transparency important?

The future of our planet depends on choices of individuals. To make the right decisions we need to be well informed and sugar-coating does nothing good for that. When consumers are led to believe that minor steps are enough or, even worse, when due to marketing strategies they lose trust in eco-friendly measures overall, non-sustainable consumption is set to increase. We disclose our behind the scenes of decision making to spread awareness of challenges a beauty business has moving towards sustainability.
As this is an ongoing learning process, should you have any questions, comments or suggestions on these topics, we are eager to hear from you at sustainability@dearroots.com

Current status
Whenever possible, we source ecologically certified ingredients.
Opportunities to improve
This makes up to xx % of all our raw materials. We wish to make the number larger.
Commentary
Quality materials cost more and are reflected on the product price tag. New or smaller businesses carry a burden of balancing between making positive changes and trying to survive in competition with bigger players in the market.

Regulatory practices on worldwide supply chains are lacking so having full control on how each ingredient affects its environment and communities is highly unlikely unless we grow and harvest our own ingredients.
